Simple Present and Present Continuous

Grammar Point!

In this part of grammar we will study some differences between the simple present and the present continuous.

Remember that the simple present is used to talk about habits and routines mostly using adverbs of frequency. Also, we use this tense to talk about things that are permanent, or true for a long time.

In the case of the present continuous we use this tense to talk about actions that are happening at the moment of speaking, temporary actions or things happening around now and changing over a period of time.

When we talk about simple present and present continuous we also have to talk about state and actvitiy verbs.

Activity verbs denote actions and can be use in all the English tenses.

State verbs denote states, feelings and opinions and regularly they are not used in in continuous tenses.
